Day 7 - Berlin, Germany
Sunday, 4 January 2009

Berliner Dome is located on Museum Island in the Mitte district, and was built between 1895 and 1905. It's a small but nice looking church. However, one have to pay to get in!! That's expensive considering the fact that we have been to quite a few churches and they are all free entry zzz..

Anyway, we too went to the infamous Pergamon Museum The Pergamon houses original-sized, reconstructed monumental buildings such as the Pergamon Altar, the Market Gate of Miletus, and the Ishtar Gate (from Babylon City), all consisting of parts transported from the original excavation sites.

The Great Altar of Pergamon, a massive stone podium about one hundred feet long and thirty-five feet high, was originally built in the 2nd century BCE in the Ancient Greek city of Pergamon (modern day Bergama in Turkey). It has long been assumed that the magnificently-scaled and opulently decorated open-air altar— for it is not a temple—[2] was dedicated to Zeus.

The Ishtar Gate was the eighth gate to the inner city of Babylon. It was constructed in about 575 BC by order of King Nebuchadnezzar II on the north side of the city. Dedicated to the Babylonian goddess Ishtar, the Gate was constructed of blue glazed tiles with alternating rows of bas-relief sirrush (dragons) and aurochs. (By the way, the gate is BIG and looks magnificent!)

Whichafter, we had the famous German Curry Wurst and then head out to Schnitzelei for our German Tapas dinner which was really nice. Yum Yum!
